Rabari Embroidery
The Rabaris of Kutch also belong to the pastoral or shepherd community just like the Ahirs. Rabaris are a npmadic community and it is an enchanting sight to see Rabari wanderers on the highways of Kutch, with all their worldly possessions piled high on the backs of their camels and donkeys.
Rabari embroidery is a portrayal of vivid images from the life of a shepherd. Line and wave patterns, like the rolling hills that alter the monotonous evenness of the horizon, are often used. Exquisite dancing peacocks, cavorting parrots,
stylised elephants and camels, various forms of Buttis like Gul and Kamarphul, resembling the nodding heads of fragile flowers growing around waterholes, mango leaves, scorpions, tree of life and women carrying water pots on their heads, are cherished motifs.
